My Story

I've created this page because I want to make a difference. I'm inspired by the work of TREE Fund and wanted to support them by raising money as part of my participation in Tour des Trees 2019. Please help me help them by giving whatever you can using the 'Give Now' button. The more people that know about TREE Fund, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!

Blob

In eight short weeks Faith and I depart on my 9th (and her first!) Tour des Trees, this year a 500 mile loop around Nashville to raise money to fund Research to keep our Urban Forests Healthy and our tree workers safe.
Trees are essential elements of our environment. They produce oxygen, store carbon, retain storm water, cool our cities (thereby reducing re-paving costs by tens of millions), and provide nourishment for the soul. They are irreplaceable. They are part of the infrastructure in every community.
I just heard an interview on KQED, the local NPR radio station, with Greg McPherson, lead researcher with the Forest Service at UC Davis in California, talking about trees as infrastructure. Greg's most recent work (published June 2012) graded the tree inventories in 30 California Cites with respect to species and age diversity, health, pest resistance, and other factors.
His work in San Jose valued the benefits provided by the City's trees at $5.7 Billion dollars. That is just one City in one State!
Please help all of us riding for tree related research! We need to keep this research well-funded and establish a protocol for getting it into the hands of our municipal leaders and planners. Our trees are paying us back, producing more in benefits than they do in maintenance costs.
They can't do it forever without our help. A new catastrophic disease strikes periodically -- Sudden Oak Death, Emerald Ash Borer, and other pathogens can decimate entire species. Please contribute generously today, and help spread the word!
Please take the time to contribute today!
